About the event
The "Mamu Nikantetau" event, meaning "Let's move forward together" in Innu-aimun, is an annual Great March aimed at promoting reconciliation and living together. Scheduled from September 23 to 30, 2024, in Anishnabe territory, it will encompass the Indigenous communities of Kitcisakik, Lac-Simon and Pikogan, as well as the cities of Val-D'Or and Amos.
Approximately 20 walkers will cover the entire route between Kitcisakik and Pikogan, totaling just under 200 km. Local walking segments open to the public and school visits will be organized at key points along the way. The Great Reconciliation Walk in Val-d'Or will be a highlight, featuring a walk open to the public followed by a ceremony including speeches and testimonies. The event will culminate on September 30 with a commemoration at the site of the former residential school in Saint-Marc-de-Figuery, hoping to attract nearly 1,000 walkers in total.
